here is a theme that has bothered me for years. How does it take the Vatican so long to detect and stop prominent clergy sex abusers in our midst? ´Abbè Pierre, Jean Vanier, Marcial Maciel, Cardinal Mc Carrick, Rupnik….
Here are my two cents, presented at the yearly conference of International Cultic Studies Association, Montreal, July 2025.

COMUNICADO DE SACERDOTES EXLEGIONARIOS A PROPÓSITO DE LA DOCUSERIE “MARCIAL MACIEL, EL LOBO DE DIOS”
“Este comunicado no pretende hablar en nombre de todos los que salieron, pero creemos que da voz al pensamiento de gran parte de ellos. En nuestro caso personal somos sacerdotes realizados en nuestro ministerio de servicio a la Iglesia y damos gracias a Dios por las experiencias positivas vividas, a pesar de este escándalo y de otras negativas.”
ReGAIN observa como gran número de personas, católicas, cristianas y pensantes se percataron de la serie HBO-MAX, Marcial Maciel, el Lobo de Dios y del impacto que tuvo en los medios, de las reacciones de exlegionarios y exRegnum Christi, de muchos periodistas y locutores de televisión, y de la manera como el liderazgo de la Legión ha querido manejar la situación: hacia dentro cerrando filas, hacia fuera emitiendo documentos de prensa.
A ReGAIN nos parece interesante escuchar a un grupo de sacerdotes ex Legionarios que han ido abandonando la congregación durante las últimas décadas: explican sus preocupaciones, lo que han hecho desde la revelación de los desvíos del Fundador y del Cuadro de Mando; se presentan, aducen datos y opiones interesantes para nuestra consideración.

So, the question is not whether the Regnum Christi Federation bears good fruit or not. The question is whether a totally corrupt person, who is morally and psychologically sick, can found a healthy religious order (“congregation”, in technical terms).

So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit.
A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit.
Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

So, the question is not whether the Regnum Christi Federation bears good fruit or not.
The question is whether a totally psychologically unbalanced (Narcissistic Personality Disorder),
Morally Depraved Predatory Pedophile and Conman Manipulator
can/could found a healthy and holy religious order (“congregation”, in technical terms).

Matthew 7 is what Jesus says. The Vatican says the opposite in the case of Father Marcial Maciel, founder of the Legion of Christ and Regnum Christi Movement, now in their latest reincarnation Regnum Christi Federation. After the most recent Vatican investigation, politely called in Vaticanese “Visitation”, we are to believe that the diseased tree (Corrupt conman and predatory sexual abuser of his own junior seminarians Marcial Maciel 1920-2008) can bear good fruit, namely the renewed Regnum Christ Federation.
Jesus’ words are so clear and so strong; so black and white and we are inclined to make them many shades of grey. It might be said that Sacred Scripture is not the RCF’s strong suit. It would be painful to think the same could be said of the Vatican. Now I find myself ripping into the Vatican, as the governing body of the Roman Catholic Church; something I am not accustomed to doing.
So, the question is not whether the Regnum Christi Federation bears good fruit or not. The question is whether a totally corrupt person, who is morally and psychologically sick, can found a healthy religious order (“congregation”, in technical terms).
By the way, the two Vatican interventions I am referring to are 1956- 59[ii] and May 2009- [iii]
