Pope Francis suppresses the Peruvian Catholic Movement of “Sodalits”

For a few years questions have been raised regarding the Peruvian group called Sodalits, Sodalitium Vitae Christianae, founded by lay person Figari who held sway among the Peruvian elite. The Vatican sent “visitators” to look into complaints, his dependable posse of Bishop Scicluna and his side-kick Jordi Bartimeu. Their report has been devastating, leading to the recent Vatican move to suppress this foundation

Dear Readers,

you are aware how during the pontificate of Saint John Paul II a number of lay movements were approved by the Vatican. Some of these have now demonstrated weaknesses in the founder and in the foundation structure. One we may have mentioned already is the Heralds of the Gospel which continues to spread in Latin America despite Vatican censures.

For a few years questions have been raised regarding the Peruvian group called Sodalits, Sodalitium Vitae Christianae, founded by lay person Figari who held sway among the Peruvian elite. The Vatican sent “visitators” to look into complaints, the dependable posse of Maltese Archbishop Charles Scicluna and his side-kick Catalan Mons. Jordi Bartimeu. Their report has been devastating, leading to the recent Vatican move to suppress this foundation.

ROME (AP) — Pope Francis has taken the remarkable step of dissolving a Peruvian-based Catholic movement, the Sodalitium Christianae Vitae, after years of attempts at reform and a Vatican investigation. The probe uncovered sexual abuses by its founder, financial mismanagement by its leaders and spiritual abuses by its top members.>

Founder of the “Heralds of the Gospel” dies

The founder of the spiritual community “Heralds of the Gospel”, Joao Scognamiglio Cla Dias, is dead. The former Superior General died on All Saints’ Day at the age of 85 in Franco da Rocha, Brazil, his community announced. The cause of death is said to be the consequences of a stroke he suffered 14 years ago.

Cla Dias was Superior General of the “Heralds of the Gospel” until his resignation in 2017. In the same year, the Vatican ordered an investigation into the community after former members reported abuses. The apostolic visitation found, among other things, deficiencies in the leadership of the community and financial irregularities. Pope Francis then appointed the former Archbishop of Aparecida, Cardinal Raymundo Damasceno Assis, as provisional head of the community. Due to alleged formal errors, the heralds did not want to recognize the appointment of the provisional leader.

Brief presence in Germany

Cla Dias founded the Heralds of the Gospel in Brazil in 1999, and the spiritual community was recognized by Pope John Paul II in 2001. A male and a female branch of the order emerged from the community. One of the community’s priorities is to seek new ways of proclaiming the Gospel, as well as Marian devotion in close connection with the Marian apparitions of Fatima. They also dedicate themselves to church music. Their religious garb resembles medieval military uniforms. In Germany, the Heralds were active for a short time in the diocese of Regensburg in the early 2000s.

The community has its roots in the Brazilian Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Private Property, a conservative Catholic organization that opposed the theology of liberation, among other things. In internal conflicts within the society, Cla Dias belonged to the wing that wanted to be less socio-political and more religiously committed. (KNA)

Queridos Lectores,

MYSTICAL PEDOPHILE: Fr. Marcial Maciel, Founder of the Legion of Christ, morphed into Regnum Christi Federation

April 1st, 2024

My wife keeps telling me to forget about Fr. Maciel and the Legionaries of Christ. But I can’t . When you are a former Legionary and have lived with Fr. Maciel certain images and experiences stick in your mind. Not that I lived with him. But he was alive all the time I was a member of the Legionaries of Christ, 1961-1984;  Maciel’s age was 41-64; so he was fully functioning -if that’s what we want to call it- all those twenty-three years.

I was never one of his favorites or part of his inner circles. They keep asking me what I knew about his pedophilic abuse of his seminarians. The answer is simple: nothing. That circle of sexual abuse was hermetically sealed by the predator; the victims were sworn never to talk about it among themselves. They never discussed it until after they left the Legion -and were free from his mental control.

I only learned about such things later -after I had left the Legion! José Barba phoned me one day out of the blue when I was at the rectory of St. Matthew’s cathedral in Washington DC, circa 1987; ten years before Berry and Renner let the cat out of the bag in the Hartford Courant, February 1997.

I now wonder whether we former Legionaries suffer from secondary PTSD when we look back on our then innocent experiences and realize what was going on behind the scenes:

We recall being privileged to participate in the Holy Mass celebrated by our holy founder in the order’s  private chapels in Salamanca and Rome. We, the true Holy Innocents, watched Fr. Maciel’s measured movements as the master of ceremonies led him through the various stages of the ritual -with which he was not overly familiar!. And how Fr. Maciel would show so much devotion at the consecration of the host. How he would hold it up in his pale hands  above his head for all to adore, remaining a minute or more in that posture as he stared at the Host in mystical rapture.

We didn’t know that with those same hands, in the sacristy before Mass, he may have fondled an altar boy, one of his seminarian “sons”, to the point of orgasm.
